I just finished watching Bus Stop with several friends from the theater department. While this post could review the actual movie it would be far more interesting to talk about the environment in the house.
It is a very informal meeting among fellow students in a very stressful and time consuming major. There exists a brotherhood among theater majors; a sense of fellowship that even extends to different disciplines to a certain extent. Tonight three of these disciplines are represented; two playwrights, an actor, and two lighting majors (one of which is myself). The entire room is reminiscent of a Mystery Science 3000 setup with ridiculous things happening on screen and then being soundly mocked. Marilyn Monroe is a terrible actress, and the entire plot of the movie is basically a misguided attempt at romance (not even forgivable when one remembers that it was released in 1956) that has more parallels to Stockholm Syndrome. Watch it only in the company of loud and witty friends!
